During this lesson, I learned a different way of viewing the ‘construction’ of religion, invented religions produces such a fascinating scope to religion as a whole. These post-narrative religions eclipse such an interesting group of people. The process of this “fictitious religion” becoming a “reality” for those who created it just illustrates a different process of human connection to religion.

The whole story of the Flying Spaghetti Monster being created as a parody, then evolving into a “parodic religion” as Carole Cusack was quite entertaining to me. Another point that Cusack brought up that really spoke to me was her mentioning religion as opposed to the idea of being “supernaturally orientated” but being about “what people really do in their lives.” This lesson helps to change my thought processes on these religions. I think that there is a definite value in studying these groups, as they help to modernize the study of a frankly ancient human process of religion.

The thing that fascinated me the most during this lesson was the multiple Religion for Breakfast videos. I found the connection of these beliefs and the social outcries and panics that came of a large amount of misinformation interesting, such as with Satanism. I found parallels between these moments and past lessons.
